Materials
Cold spray is particularly suited for metals and alloys, but can process also a range of metal matrix composites and even some polymers, including:
- pure metals such as aluminum (Al), copper (Cu), titanium (Ti), nickel (Ni), silver (Ag), iron (Fe), tin (Sn), niobium (Nb), tantalum (Ta), and chromium (Cr)
- alloys based on these metals, for example aluminum alloys (2024, 6061, 7075), nickel-based superalloys (In718, In625), copper alloys (CuNi, CuCrZr), cobalt alloys (CoCr) and steels of various grades (304L, 316L)
- metal matrix composites combining ductile metals with ceramic reinforcements (WC-Co, Al-Al2O3, Cu-SiC)
- polymers such as ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and polyether ether ketone (PEEK)
